Bronchial Asthma Controlling Vitamins

Bronchial asthma is considered as a lifelong disease, which causes the bronchus to swell or narrow. This condition can impair the normal respiratory rate. It is characterized by shortness of breathing, presence of wheezing (whooshing sound during exhalation), and pain at the chest area.

There is no definite cure for treating asthma. All of the medications used by people with bronchial asthma are considered as palliative treatment. It means that, these drugs can reduce the signs and symptoms of asthma but it can’t completely eliminate the problem.

Bronchial Asthma And Vitamins.Vitamin D (Ergocalciferol)

This fat-soluble vitamin is commonly found in the natural foods. However, there are product that are fortified with Vitamin D. Furthermore, this vitamin is found in the skin. It only needs an exposure to sunlight before this vitamin will be activated.

A person with poor level of vitamin D is rare, but people with asthma attack who uses this vitamin are claiming for reduced manifestations of asthma. According to the study made by M. Sandhu in 2010, they stated that this vitamin can help prevent the occurrence of asthma attack. It reduced the inflammation of the bronchus by inhibiting the main culprit.

This culprit is a chemical, which is normally found in the body. It is called as cytokines. Additionally, vitamin D can also promote the production of another chemical in the body known as interleukin. The interleukin can help reverse the effect of cytokines.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol)

This fat-soluble vitamin helps protect the person’s cell from the damages caused by the free radicals. It promotes the formation of the erythrocyte (red blood cell). This vitamin helps the body to utilize vitamin K (Menadione). According to the study from the University of Maryland Medical Centre in 2004, they stated that Vitamin E is incorporated to its effect of lowering the incidence of asthma cases.

Supplementation of Vitamin E can help reduce the symptoms of asthma. However, this study needs further clinical investigation because the findings are not definite. Furthermore, there are people with asthma are claiming that using Vitamin E have helped them by reducing the occurrence of asthma attack.

Vitamin B 12 (Cobalamin)

This water-soluble vitamin aids with the conversion of carbohydrates in to glucose. The converted glucose is used to feed the normal cells in the body. It acts as a fuel for the cell to work normally. It also plays an important role for synthesizing the DNA and RNA. This vitamin is responsible for the formation of red blood cells and it helps boost the immune system.

According to the anecdotal report of the University of Maryland Medical Centre, they stated that Vitamin B 12 is associated with the prevention of bronchospasms. An injectable form of B 12 can help reduce the occurrence of asthma attack symptoms.

Vitamin C (Citric Acid)

Normally, the person’s body do not store vitamin C. It is usually obtained by eating citrus fruits and veggies. This water-soluble vitamin is a potent antioxidant. It helps repair the damage body tissues and boosts the immune system. Additionally, it is associated with the prevention of bronchospasm.

It helps relieve the inflamed wall of the bronchus, thus may prevent the narrowing of the airway. The University of Maryland Medical Centre introduced that taking of 1 gram of Vitamin C can help anyone with bronchial asthma from suffering of asthma attack.

There are vitamins that can be used as palliative treatment for asthma. These vitamins are more efficient and safe because it has lesser adverse reactions compare to other pharmaceutical products. However, there are few vitamins which need further clinical studies that can prove its therapeutic effect.
